While my focus of the newsletter is on solid 'established & profitable’ online businesses, throughout my reviews of online businesses, I often run across and analyze businesses that don’t fit the bill but are a good case study / mental exercise for those interested in acquiring an online businesses.
Solid! These are the businesses that are established & profitable and listed at a fair price. These are the ones I like for acquisition.
Solid but Overpriced. Also established and profitable but the listing price is just too high in my opinion. Maybe you’ll see some value on your end. Or perhaps you can circle back in a couple months in the sellers expectations will be a little more grounded.
Interesting Find. These are often the businesses we would like to own, but NOT acquire. They’re typically fast growth and high scale. Or make money quick and easy, but have no substantial moat. Basically I like to look at em, but wouldnt actually buy one.
Small Growth Opp. These are often very small businesses that are built out but just haven’t really gotten market traction. They may be good for skilled marketers that want a completed ‘product’ that they can take a crack at marketing.
