How it rates
ValuationFair
Other consumer software businesses we've tracked mostly ask 2.6–4.9x profit, or 2.2–4.1x adjusted for its short history or recent decline; this one asks 3.1x.
Durability
About a year old, and roughly a fifth of subscribers cancel every month.
Hands-off
The founder works 15 to 20 hours a week with a part-time developer.
Why it's interesting
- Flippa-verified listing with Stripe connected: revenue, expenses and traffic were vetted, with 915 active subscribers and an 89.6% gross margin.
- Light workload: the founder puts in 15-20 hours a week, supported by a part-time developer.
- Seller financing is on offer alongside an all-cash deal (no SBA).
What to watch
- Churn is given as 20% overall and about 23% a month in the description, with lifetime value near $87; at that rate roughly 180-210 of 915 subscribers leave each month and must be replaced just to stay flat.
- Built on OpenAI, and the newsletter that relayed it called it essentially a UI wrapper, so cheaper AI tutors could undercut it and API price changes would hit margin directly.
- The numbers don't reconcile: monthly recurring revenue is $17,423 in the header but $18,824 in the description, and 915 subscribers at the stated $56.65 average revenue per user would be about $52K a month. Revenue shown is a monthly figure times 12, not a trailing-year total.
- The relaying newsletter called the price far too high; at 3.1 times profit annualized from a monthly figure, there is little cushion if churn worsens.
Ask the seller
- What do you pay the nursing-student creators, and what does one new subscriber cost through that channel?
- How is the $56.65 average revenue per user calculated, given 915 subscribers and about $17.4K in monthly recurring revenue?
- Is most of the churn students who passed the exam and left, or students who cancelled before their exam date?
Growth plays
- Sell upfront exam-length prep passes (for example a three-month NCLEX bundle), since churn likely follows exam dates, turning short stays into cash collected at signup.
- Cohort licences for nursing schools and student nursing associations ahead of graduation, when whole classes start NCLEX prep together.
